He attended the district schools of his home community, and select school at Wurtemberg, Pennsylvania, after which he worked on the farm and in his father's mill. After his marriage he operated the homestead in North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, where he farmed until 1896, after which time he maintained a home in Ellwood City.
