General Notes: Husband - Samuel H. Borland

The Borland family was first established in this country when he and his brother came from Scotland and settled in eastern Pennsylvania. [HBC 1909, 1348] Possibly in Centre County, PA?
First name "John". [HBC 1909, 1348]

He settled in Rockland Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania, as early as 1826, being the first of the family to own the homestead. He met an untimely death, being drowned when the boat sank on which he was taking iron to Pittsburgh, in order to secure lumber for the construction of the house which now [1919] stands on the farm, and which was finished by his son Hutchison. S. H. Borland is buried there. His widow lived to the age of eighty-five years, making her home with her son Samuel, who eventually bought out the heirs to the home farm (in 1878), remaining there all his life. [HVC 1919, 969]

He was born in Scotland, came to the United States, settling at Rockland, Venango County, Pennsylvania, where he engaged in lumbering and farming. He was drowned in the Allegheny river. Both he and his wife were Presbyterians. [GPHNP, 370]
