General Notes: Husband - Maurice D. Welty


He was educated in the public schools and was a graduate of the Greensburg high school, class of 1906; he received an appointment to the West Point Military Academy and entered that institution June 15, 1906.

He was educated in the local public schools and graduated from the West Point Military Academy in 1910. He was at once sent to the Philippines as lieutenant of the Third United States Infantry and there served for three years. He then returned to the United States and was sent to Plattsburg, New York, where he remained for twelve months. He was next sent to Oswego, New York, and in the spring of 1916 was detailed to the Mexican border, where he served on the staff of General Greene as first lieutenant, and on May 1, 1917, was promoted to captain, located at Douglas, Arizona, a member of General Greene's staff.
