General Notes: Husband - William Walter Bowen

He was, first a farmer and later a merchant in Millertown, Butler County, Pennsylvania. Shortly after 1851 he moved to where Corry, Pennsylvania, is now located, and purchased a two-hundred-acre farm; but returned soon to Portland, New York, where he had lived for some years as a boy. Here he continued as a farmer until 1859, when disastrous frosts ruined many farms in that section. He then moved to Jamestown, New York, where he lived for ten years. Being attracted then by the oil country he moved to Pleasantville, Pennsylvania, and finally to Chicora, then called Millerstown, where he remained until his death. On his death the paper said of him: "An industrious, conscientious man and straightforward citizen, he was known for his rugged honesty and tenacity of purpose, and won the respect and esteem of all with whom he was associated, in business or otherwise."
