He was educated in Cooperstown, PA, and began to learn the trade of carriage-maker when young. He finished with William Dickson, at Clarksville, and began for himself in 1872, and continued until he formed a partnership with C. Carver. He was a member of the A. O. U. W., and he and his wife belonged to the Presbyterian Church. He was a Democrat in politics.
