General Notes: Husband - Goodloe Harper Bowman

He was reared and educated in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, and entered upon active business life as a merchant at about the age of twenty years. He entered trade with his father under the firm-name of Jacob Bowman & Sons; was subsequently in partnership with his brother, N. B. Bowman; was cashier of the Monongahela Bank from 1830 to 1841; elected president of that institution in 1857, and held the position until his death.

He continued merchandising, in partnership with his brothers, until 1855, when he relinquished the business, and gave his attention principally to the affairs of the Monongahela Bank of Brownsville.

Like his father, he was an active member and supporter of the Protestant Episcopal Church, and for many years senior warden of Christ Church, Brownsville. He was in politics a Whig in early life, and became an ardent Republican, and contributed liberally to the support of the Union cause during the War of the Rebellion.
