He enlisted in Company D, Two Hundred and Eleventh Pennsylvania Volunteers, and served about one year, at the close of the war. He was in the battles before Petersburg and Fort Steadman. He was a member of the A. O. U. W., a stanch Republican, and he and wife were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
