He was born near Harlansburg, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, and received a common school education. When twenty years of age he engaged in teaming, and subsequently learned the blacksmith's trade, which he followed some four years. He then went to work in a bottling works at New Brighton, Beaver County, and subsequently worked at the same business in Sharon. In September, 1890, he moved to Butler, Pennsylvania, and purchased the bottling works of Mechling & Smith. Mr. Kennedy manufactured all kinds of soft drinks, and charged soda fountains for his patrons in Butler, also suppling many of the small neighboring towns.
He and his wife were members of the Presbyterian church. Mr. Kennedy was connected with the K. O. T. M., and in politics, was a Democrat.

He was born near Kennedy's Mill, in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania. When he was three years old his parents moved to Muddy Creek Township, Butler County, but shortly afterward went to Tennessee, subsequently returning to Lawrence County. He spent his early life on a farm and also worked with his father's threshing machine and later spent four years at the blacksmith trade. He learned the bottling business at New Brighton and Sharon and from the latter place came to Butler September 10, 1890, at which time he bought a small bottling plant already established. He was a stockholder in the Butler County National Bank, in the People's Telephone Company, the Butler Savings and Trust Company and the Butler Ice Company. He took an active interest in local politics and served some years as a member of the city council. [TCHBC, 932]
