He was educated in the schools of Washington, D. C.; public schools of Sugargrove, Warren County, Pennsylvania; United Brethren Seminary, from which he graduated in 1910; State Normal School at Edinboro, from which he graduated in 1911, and Eastman's Business College, Poughkeepsie, New York. During the years 1911-12 he taught school in Chandlers Valley, Pennsylvania.
