When a small boy, he was taken in charge by his grandfather Warrell, with whom he made his home until he had attained his majority. For five years after his marriage he managed the Warrell farm, one-half mile west of Prosperity, which he later owned, and on which he resided. In 1889 he opened a furniture and undertaking business in Prosperity, the undertaking department of which he long conducted on quite an extensive scale, though the furniture department was dropped in 1891. Mr. Brockman was also dealing in real estate in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In politics he adhered to the principles of the Republican party, though he was not a partisan.
He and his wife believed in enjoying life, and devoted considerable time to travel. During the oppressive summer months of each year they spent the time at some watering place, having in the summer of 1891 made an extensive trip up the Great Lakes.
