FRANKLIN WOMAN, 92, SUCCUMBS SUDDENLY
Mrs. Margaret Brown Stricken Monday at Daughter's Home
Mrs. Margaret J. Brown, 92, the last of the charter members of the First Evangelical Church, died at 3:45 o'clock Monday afternoon at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John Shoup, 1440 Buffalo Street where she had been visiting for the past few weeks. She was stricken while seated at the breakfast table at 7:45 o'clock and fell to the floor. She never regained consciousness. Mrs. Brown had made her home for the past 27 years with her grandson, Alexander Shoup, 222 Liberty Street.
Surviving besides the daughter and grandson, is a granddaughter, Mrs. Clair Ballard of Franklin, and a brother, James Taylor, of Rockland, and six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Brown was the widow of Alexander Brown, who died in 1911. She was born in Blair County, Jan. 19, 1848, the daughter of the late John and Catherine Taylor, pioneer settlers of that county.
At an early age she moved to Rockland Township, and as a young girl came to Franklin. She was the oldest member of the Evangelical Church having joined the church about 1871, when Rev. W. M. Stanford, who later became bishop, was pastor. She was a member of the Gleaners Class and a teacher in the Sunday school for many years. She served faithfully on the Ladies' Aid for many years. Failing eyesight and hearing eliminated her activities the last few years. The last time she was able to attend church was at a Christmas party held by the members of the Gleaners Class in the parish house. She was a charter member of the Ladies of the Maccabees.
Funeral services will be held at the Barron chapel at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Coleman will have charge of the services and interment will be in the Franklin Cemetery. Friends may call at any time after Tuesday noon.
