General Notes: Husband - John E. Brown

He grew up on the old homestead, attended the common schools of his neighborhood, and worked at farming throughout his early manhood. In October, 1862, he enlisted in Company A, One Hundred and Sixty-ninth Pennsylvania Volunteers, and served nearly ten months, when his term of service expired. On his return to Mercer County, PA, he continued his former occupation of farming. In April, 1878, he opened a grocery store in Greenville. He was a Republican in politics, a member of the G. A. R., and both he and wife belonged to the United Presbyterian Church of Greenville.
