General Notes: Husband - Henry W. Oliver, Sr.

He was a merchant in Donaghmore, County Tyrone, Ireland, and was active and influential in local politics. In the election of 1841 he warmly espoused the cause of the Liberals, thereby gaining the ill will of the successful candidate, who was the Lord of the Manor. The victorious earl, with his friends, boycotted the supporters of the defeated candidate, ruining their business whenever possible. On this account Mr. Oliver decided to emigrate to the United States, and in the autumn of 1842 settled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Being a good mechanic, he soon established a profitable business, which he conducted for over forty years, winning recognition as a substantial merchant and manufacturer.
