When a young man he moved to Philadelphia, where he accumulated a fortune, and spent a great part of his after life traveling in the interests of religion. He lived for a time in Wilmington, Delaware, later at Nottingham, Cecil County, Maryland, and about 1771 located at Little Britain, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where he died.

He had three children with his first wife; one with his second.
