General Notes: Husband - John Aaron Johnston

He was a farmer all his life. He remained on the home place with his parents until 1870, and then farmed there for himself until the death of his father, when he bought the property. After the death of his uncle, George Harbaugh, he also bought his farm, and owned and operated both, being one of the extensive farmers of his vicinity. In 1885 he completed a fine brick residence and moved into it. It was one of the most complete country homes in the county, fitted up with all modern improvements and conveniences, including steam heat and hot and cold water, all over the house. It was surrounded with handsome grounds.
Mr. Johnston took an active part in local matters and served several terms as school director. Both he and his wife were consistent members of the Reformed Church, to which he was a liberal contributor.
