General Notes: Husband - Samuel Jolly

He came to what is now Scrubgrass Township, Venango County, PA, in the year 1795. He first cleared some land, built a house, and made preparation for a permanent settlement. He then returned to his old home in Rockingham County, and brought out his family in the spring of 1796. His brother, Thomas, came out with him, and settled about one and a half miles south of him, in what is now Venango Township, Butler County. The territory was then a part of Allegheny County, and the Jollys were the first settlers in that neighborhood. The only means of transportation was by pack horses, and the nearest flouring mill was fifty miles away through a dense wilderness. [HVC 1879, 642]
