General Notes: Husband - Hilary Brunot

He was born in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in a house that was still standing on the banks of the Schuylkill river one hundred years later. At an early age he entered the military academy at West Point, graduating in one of the first classes emanating from that institution, and passing thence into the regular army. He served in the War of 1812, was wounded in the sortie at Fort Erie, and was afterward stationed at Fort Snelling, Mackinaw, Green Bay and Newport, Kentucky, and later in the arsenal at Pittsburgh. He resigned his position in the army in 1825, and engaged successfully for many years in the manufacture of white lead, occupying the whole square later covered by the Union depot, Pittsburgh. He retired from active business in 1850.

He was an earnest Christian, a man of great force of character, and was very active in politics. He was a Whig and later a Republican, and served for many years as a member of the city councils of Pittsburgh.
