General Notes: Husband - William Holt

The immigrant ancestor of the Holt family, he came to America in 1642. He settled in New Haven, Connecticut, and the first record of him was July 1, 1644, when he with six other persons signed the New Haven colony constitution. As he did not sign it when it was revised in the previous March, he was evidently not a resident there at that time. His original home lot was on the north side of what became Water street, in the section between Union street on the west and Olive street on the east. This lot of about two acres was increased by two grants of land on the north of it. About 1720 this lot with two or three others came into the possession of Moses Mansfield, and a part of it in 1771 was sold to Benedict Arnold who fought in the revolution, and in 1782 was confiscated with the mansion on it as forfeited property; it was sold to Captain John Prout Sloan and in 1798 was bought by Dr. Noah Webster, famous be-cause of his dictionary, and eventually became part of the grounds of Yale University. About 1675 William Holt moved to Wallingford, Connecticut, where he lived for ten years, until his death, aged seventy-three. His property was appraised by his son-in-law, Abram Doolittle, and Eleazer Park, and amounted to two hundred and thirty-eight pounds, ten shillings, nine pence. He left no will.
