He came with his wife and son John from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, to Independence township, Washington County, in 1783, and on April 19, 1785, purchased 300 acres of land on "Worley's Run" of Joseph Worley, who returned to the East. After settling in Independence township, three sons were born to them, all of whom remained in Independence township.
