He was born November 10. [HMEF, 344]
He was reared on his father's farm, where he was taught lessons of thrift and self-dependence. When he commenced for himself he embarked in the grocery business, which he continued until 1868, when he sold out and moved to the lower oil country, where he was employed two years. In 1877 he came to McKean County, Pennsylvania, where he bought property and began drilling oil wells for himself, in which he met with good success.
In politics Mr. Chambers was a Prohibitionist, and he and his wife were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
