General Notes: Husband - William F. Burton

He was born in 1846. [HMC 1888, 1136]
They settled in Eastland County, TX, where he followed surveying and stock raising on a farm of 600 acres. In the fall of 1878 he returned to Mercer County, PA, and lived on the old homestead. Politically he was a Democrat, and a member of the United Presbyterian Church.

He attended district school until he was sixteen years of age, was then graduated from the high school at Greenville, PA, and then was a student at Troy, NY, and also of the Pennsylvania State College. He learned surveying and civil engineering and after completing this special course managed his father's farm until 1874, then went west and followed his profession as a government surveyor in Texas for two years. He came back to Youngstown, OH, and took up the carpenter's trade, continuing in this for two years, when his father's health failed and he went home to take charge of the place. This farm was called “Pleasant View Farm” and upon it he erected a new modern residence. In his political views he was a Democrat, having served fifteen years as clerk of the board of supervisors and a three years' term as assessor, and a three years' term as supervisor and clerk of the board. [HMC 1909, 693]
