General Notes: Husband - Lt. Edward Butler

The youngest of the five Butler brothers, he was too young to enter the army at the first stages of the Revolution, but at an early age was made an Ensign of his brother Richard's 9th Pennsylvania Regiment. January 28, 1779, he was promoted Lieutenant, and continued in the army until the close of the Revolution, being then, 1783, a Lieutenant in the 2d Pennsylvania. He was a Captain at St. Clair's defeat, and subsequently was Adjutant-General of Gen. Wayne's Army.
