General Notes: Husband - Thomas McHail

He was educated in the schools of Bolivar, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and on completing his course of study entered the brick-yards. His first occupation was, as they say, "off-bearing, brick," and in this he was engaged for about three years. For several years thereafter he worked at moulding bricks. His upward progress was steady and for one year he held the position of superintendent of the Bolivar Fire-Brick Company. Other interests also claimed the attention of Mr. McHail. For the space of a year he was engaged in cutting timber in Fairfield, Ligonier Valley, and for a period of twelve or fifteen years he was superintendent for the Fairfield Fire-Clay Company. He had an interest in the Filer Coal Company, and was the owner of forty-seven acres in Fairfield township upon which he had a cropper to operate. Like his father Mr. McHail was always active in local politics, allying himself with the Democratic party. In 1916 he was appointed by President Wilson postmaster of Bolivar. He was past councillor of Bolivar Council, Junior Order of United American Mechanics, and past president of Washington Camp, No. 327, Patriotic Order Sons of America; also past regent of Bolivar Council, No. 2071, Royal Arcanum. He affiliated with Blairsville Lodge No. 315, Free and Accepted Masons, and was a contributor to the work and support of the Methodist Episcopal church.
