General Notes: Husband - William Byers

from St. Clair Twp, Allegheny Co, PA

He settled in Old Sandy Creek Township, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, in 1797. In 1803, he was appointed the first sheriff in Mercer County, and finding it necessary to locate at the county seat in order to attend to the duties of his office, he left the settlement in the "Narrow Vacancy," and sold his place to John Sheakley, whose son, George, was the founder of Sheakleyville.
