His great-great-grandfather Fisher was one of the original company of Quakers who, with William Penn, in 1662, founded the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

For thirty years he was president judge of the Nineteenth Judicial District of Pennsylvania.
He and his wife had eight children, of whom six grew to maturity.
