General Notes: Husband - Charles G. Swearingen

He obtained an education in the public schools, and for a time followed the occupation of farmer. Deciding that a trade would be more beneficial and congenial, he apprenticed himself to that of carpenter, and after becoming a journeyman worked in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, for a period of seven years. In 1906 he returned to his father's farm and became the owner of the homestead. He improved the property by the erection of a new barn, and continued the line in which his father engaged, general farming, and also raised quite a good deal of stock. Oil was struck on his land, and there came to be fourteen wells producing daily. Mr. Sweringen was a successful farmer, and met with excellent results in his stock-raising operations. His political sympathies were Republican in state or national issues, but in local affairs he allied himself with no party. With his wife he was a member of the Presbyterian Church. His fraternal relations were with the Glasgow Lodge, No. 485, Free and Accepted Masons, and Sewickley Lodge, No. 426, Knights of Pythias.
