MAN DIES OF BULLET WOUND
RUSSELL REUBEN HECKATHORNE, 34, OF PLUMER ACCIDENTALLY KILLED
Russell Reuben Heckathorne, 34, of Plumer, died instantly Friday afternoon of a gunshot wound in the head.
Heckathorne's body was found by his wife about 4 o'clock in a barn located on their property.
County Coroner Dr. J. I. Zerbe last night termed the fatality accidental.
The coroner said Heckathorne had left home about 2:30 o'clock with a .22 calibre rifle to shoot mark. He was last seen about 3:30 o'clock. Upon investigation the coroner learned the sight on the rifle was bent and that the man had been working with the gun, trying to straighten the sight.
He had entered the barn where the gun in some manner discharged. The shot struck Heckathorne about two inches behind the right ear and lodged in his head. The dead man was lying along side the running board of an automobile.
WIFE FOUND BODY
Mrs. Heckathorne, who discovered the body, was not at home at the time of the fatal shot, it was revealed. She was visiting at the home of her mother a short distance away.
Heckathorne was born June 14, 1903, at Seneca, a son of John and Dora Belle McMillan Heckathorne. He was employed by the Pennzoil Refining Co. at Rouseville and was a member of the Pennzoil Club.
He is survived by his wife and two children, Jack and Jeanne, both at home. Besides his parents he is also survived by two sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Helen Hughes of Rocky Grove, Mrs. Erla McCartney of Hasson Heights, Charles of Dempseytown and Ray of Rocky Grove.
