General Notes: Husband - John B. Caldwell

He was reared in his native township, and in 1866 settled on the old Robinson farm, containing 120 acres, where he then resided.

In 1863 Mr. Caldwell enlisted in Company B, Sixth Pennsylvania Artillery, and served thirteen months in the Union army. Politically, he is a Republican, has been overseer of the poor in his township, and was the census enumerator in 1890. He and wife are members of the United Presbyterian church.

He was born in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, but was a resident of Jefferson Township, Butler County, beginning in his childhood days. [TCHBC, 1306]

He was reared on the farm he later came to own and worked on the place for his father while in attendance at school in District No. 4, Jefferson Township. During the Civil War he saw much hard service with the Army of the Potomac, serving some thirteen months under Colonel Barnes in the Fifty-sixth Regiment of Pennsylvania, and also in the Heavy Artillery. At the close of the war he returned to the farm, which he conducted with uninterrupted success until January, 1909, when he removed to the borough of Butler to enter on the duties as sheriff. Although he was always active in politics and aided largely in the success of his party, this was the first county office to which he was elected. Proving himself an excellent campaigner, he led the ticket in Butler County. He previously served as road commissioner and census taker, and frequently was sent as delegate to the various conventions.
He and his wife were members of the United Presbyterian Church at Butler, and were very active in church affairs.

Notes: Marriage

They were married in November, 1866. [TCHBC, 1306]
