General Notes: Husband - Reuben Caldwell

The only opportunities afforded him for securing an education were such as the country schools furnished, but his training at farm labor was not so limited. On attaining his majority he left home and traveled throughout the western United States, but in the fall returned to his native county, where he was employed in lumbering during the winter of 1851. He then purchased 108 acres of land, and later added to his original purchase until he had a valuable farm of 350 acres, of which 180 acres were under a high state of cultivation. The place was situated two miles south of New Millport, was fine mineral land, and one coal mine was in successful operation.
