General Notes: Husband - Samuel Caldwell, Sr.

His parents immigrated to Pennsylvania in 1787, where he grew to manhood. In 1801 he came to Mercer County, and settled in what is now Sugar Grove Township. In 1802 he married and removed to Delaware Township.

When he was about nine years old he emigrated, with his parents, from Ireland to Franklin County, PA, and, after passing his youth and early manhood there, removed, in 1802, to Luch's Corners, Sugar Grove Township, Mercer County, and thence, in 1806, to a farm in Delaware Township. He was a prominent man in Delaware Township during its early history, and a commission from Simon Snyder, Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, dated March 20th, 1816, creating him a justice of the peace for Delaware and Pymatuning, was still in the possession of his descendants sixty years later.

The first church in Delaware Township was Presbyterian, and during the early days of its existence, was known as Upper Salem. It was organized in 1800. Samuel Caldwell, Sr., was a very active and prominent member, being, at different times, treasurer, and a member of session.
