General Notes: Husband - John Harvey Mateer

He was reared and educated in Boggs township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, where he passed all his life. In the spring of 1872, shortly before his marriage, he came to the farm he thereafter owned and occupied: a fine tract of 196 acres to which he added seven acres after he settled on it. The improvements, including the commodious and substantial buildings, were practically all his own work. Besides carrying on general farming, he raised fine dairy stock and Percheron Norman horses, in which latter he took particular pride. Though he did not seek public honors he was elected tax collector. In political connection he was a Democrat, in church connection a Presbyterian. [HAC 1914, 429]
