General Notes: Husband - Barney Ersinus Shoup

He was reared on a farm and received his education in the Antwerp public schools. At the conclusion of his studies he engaged in oil pumping, operating on his father's farms until the latter's death, when he inherited fifty-two acres. He bought an additional ten acres of oil land, and continued his operations on these two places until his own death. He was also interested at one time in the Alamo Gas Company. In politics he was a Democrat, he belonged to the Reformed church, and was a member of the Order of Maccabees.
