General Notes: Husband - John Acheson

The first of the siblings in this family to emigrate to America was John, who, about the year 1784, came to Washington, Pennsylvania, where he commenced to trade, and soon after established other trading points at Cincinnati and Wheeling. He was also employed by the United States government in furnishing supplies to the army for the Indian wars. His death by apoplexy occurred while crossing the Allegheny Mountains on horseback on his way to Philadelphia. He left a widow and two daughters in Ireland.
In 1807 the youngest daughter came to America, and lived with her uncle David.

He was the first of the parental family to leave Ireland. He was employed by the United States Government in furnishing supplies to the army in the Indian wars, and he carried on a mercantile business not only at Washington, Pennsylvania, but at several other important points. He died suddenly, at the age of about thirty-five years, while crossing the Alleghany mountains on horseback, on his way to Philadelphia.
