General Notes: Husband - William A. Campbell

Vandergrift Heights, Westmoreland Co, PA

He was reared at home and acquired a good education in the common schools of that district. When about seventeen years of age he began his business career in the oil fields near Millerstown, Pennsylvania, as a tool dresser, and for about two years he followed this occupation. He then worked as a pumper for about two years, and in the year 1892 went to Apollo and obtained a position in the mills of the Apollo Iron & Steel Company as a laborer. He had held this but a short time when he was advanced to that of heating ingots in the hammer shop, and this he retained until his transfer to the Vandergrift mills in April, 1896. In Vandergrift he was given the occupation as a pair heater and attended to his duty faithfully until he was advanced to the position of a sheet heater, which advance occurred at the end of eighteen months. Besides being engaged at the mills, Mr. Campbell devoted some of his time to the development of oil in Butler County, Pennsylvania. He was a Republican in politics and served five years as a member of the borough council of the Heights, and one term on the Republican county committee. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. He was also a member of Vandergrift Lodge, No. 1116, Independent Order of Odd Fellows; and Millerstown Lodge, Mo. 457, Knights of Pythias.
