General Notes: Husband - Dr. M. A. Campdoras

He was a native of Thuir, France. and served as surgeon in the French navy from 1845 to December, 1851, and came to America in the spring of 1852, and to Topeka, Kansas, in March, 1855. After Louis Napoleon's "coup de etat" December 2, 1851, Dr. Campdoras left the French navy, and served as colonel of an Insurgent regiment against the regular troops, in the Department of the Var. After the defeat and dispersion of the "patriot uprising," he was exiled; but was afterwards pensioned by the later French Republic. In the spring of 1862 he was appointed Assistant Surgeon of the Second Regiment Indian Home Guards, "Army of the Frontier" under General Blunt. He was wounded at the battle of Cane Hill November 28, 1862, and resigned in October, 1863, on account of ill health.

General Notes: Wife - Eliza Matilda Reader

After their mother died, she and her brother were left in care of their aunt, Eliza James. Their grandfather James and his daughter and the two children moved to Wellsburg, Virginia, in 1839, thence to La Harpe, Illinois, in 1841, and in May, 1855, removed to Indianola, Kansas, where they selected land.

After the death of their mother, she and her brother were taken to La Harpe, Illinois, by their maternal aunt, Eliza James, in 1841, and moved to Indianola, Kansas, May 20, 1855. Here they selected claims of 160 acres of land each, for which they received U. S. patents in 1857.

[Unable to find an Indianola, Kansas - There is an Indianola, Iowa.]
