General Notes: Husband - James Robertson

He was a loom machinist. He came to America in 1830, settling first at Paterson, New Jersey, later moved to Richmond, Virginia, and thence by horses and wagon to central Missouri, which was then on the extreme frontier. He was there several years. Returning east, he made the return trip also by wagon, and stopping at Allegheny City, Pennsylvania, was induced by some friends to invest the larger part of his money in brick works located at Bolivar, Pennsylvania. This investment turned out badly. He then moved back to Richmond, and took up his old trade of loom machinist.
He was a strong Union man, but on account of his age was debarred from taking part as a soldier in the Civil war.
His second wife was a woman of considerable wealth, owning a large acreage and several hundred slaves. They lost the bulk of their fortune during the Civil war, and afterward went to Norwich, Connecticut, where they spent their declining years.
