General Notes: Husband - Duncan Carmichael

He had three children with his first wife, all were dead by 1888. He was elected county commissioner of Mercer County, PA, in 1887; was a school director; a member of I. O. O. F., and a stanch Democrat. He and his second wife were members of the Wesleyan Methodist church.

He was a farmer; educated in the public schools, and always lived on the farm on which he was born except three years, 1888-89-90, when he lived in Mercer, serving as County Commissioner of Mercer County, to which office he was elected the fall of 1887. He was a large man, six feet, six inches tall and well over 200 pounds in weight, and was well and favorably known throughout Mercer and adjoining counties. He was known in the Hendersonville region as "Big Dune" to distinguish him from a cousin of the same name. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and a member of the I. O. O. F. lodge for almost 50 years.
