He was educated at the common schools and academy. He became a highly respected farmer of Wilkins township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. In politics he voted the Republican ticket. He was a member of the Presbyterian church and a director of the county poor of Allegheny County and a director and vice-president of the Braddock National Bank.
