General Notes: Husband - Frank Robert Griffith

He received a good common school education in his native township, and was then apprenticed to learn the trade of printing with C. R. Griffith, his brother, later the editor of the Marion Center Independent. He was occupied with printing for eight years, and then learned telegraphy at Brockwayville, Pennsylvania, on the Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburg railroad. Later he accepted a position as clerk in the general store of John Truby, at Marion Center, remained there for two years, and then held a similar position for nine years in the store of J. R. Stumpf. He moved to Greensburg, Westmoreland County, in January, 1899, and established himself in business on Pennsylvania avenue, in the McCansland building, continuing there for two years. He then moved to the Hacke building on Main street, and after five years bought Hammer's building on South Main street, removed to it in March, 1905, and conducted a large and flourishing department store in those premises. He also dealt considerably in real estate, buying and selling a number of valuable properties. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of Greensburg, and was always a stanch supporter of the Republican party. He was a member of the Royal Arcanum, of the Business Men's Association of Greensburg, and of the Homeless Twenty-six of Pittsburgh.
