General Notes: Husband - Gawin Adams

Some years prior to the Revolution, he migrated to what is now Indiana County, Pennsylvania, and erected his first cabin near the spring on the lot later occupied by James McCracken, in the borough of Indiana, and subsequently removed his family to his "improvement." They were driven away by the Indians, returned to the Conecocheague valley, and did not return to central Pennsylvania till about 1790. At this time they settled on the Major Ramsey tract, later occupied by James Hood, White township, and subsequently removed to the farm later owned by Gawin Adams McLain, a grandson, where they died at an advanced age.

He erected the first grist and saw mills at what later became known as Porterfield's mills. The Adams homestead was willed to Gawin Adams, jr.
