It was a tradition among the older members of the Christys of Portersville, Butler County, PA, that about the middle of the 1700s, a Scotchman named Christie came to America, and settled in Connecticut where he raised a family of seven sons and one daughter. Very early in the history of Westmoreland County, three of these sons located near the forks of the Youghiogheny and Monongahela Rivers, while the other four went to Nova Scotia, but ultimately became residents of the State of Ohio. [HBC 1883, 438]

One Christie/Christy family settled in southern Concord Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania, and they were related to a family of the same surname that settled in southern Washington Township, but the exact connection is unknown. A third family of this surname settled in the area of Portersville, Muddy Creek Township, Butler County, but as far as can be determined, they were not related to the first two families mentioned.
