General Notes: Husband - Timothy Clark

He and his wife had a family of eight boys and three girls, all of whom reached maturity with the exception of the second child, who died when he was three months old. In 1836 they made preparations to come to America with four of their children, the youngest of whom was six weeks old. Embarking from Ireland in May, 1836, arrangements were made for the payment of their passage on a Liverpool boat. When they reached that port they found the vessel at the dock, with both decks torn out, undergoing such thorough repairs that after waiting three weeks for it to be ready, they became discouraged over the outlook and secured passage on another boat, named the "Hannibal." While still in mid-ocean of the nine weeks' voyage the Clark family had the pleasure of seeing the boat which they had left in Liverpool overhaul their slow craft, and majestically sail out of sight toward America. In due time, however, the "Hannibal" sighted the mouth of the St. Lawrence, passed into Lakes Ontario and Erie, and landed at Black Rock, Ohio, in September, 1836. Until 1841 the family resided near Girard, OH, but in that year removed to a locality in Pennsylvania between what was known as Chestnut Corners and Harmonsburg, Crawford County. In 1845 they transferred their homestead to Vernon Township, Mercer county, and in 1848 bought the land in Vernon Township which became the Clark homestead. [HMC 1909, 827]
