After completing his early schooling in the Worthington Academy, he attended the University of Illinois and in 1887 was graduated from Northwestern University. He engaged in practice in Chicago for several years and in February, 1902, located in Butler, Pennsylvania, where he became widely and favorably known as a capable physician and surgeon.
Politically, he was a Republican. He was a member of the Presbyterian church, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Woodmen of the World, Independent Order of Forresters, and was active in the Butler County Medical Society.
