General Notes: Husband - Henry L. Close

He was born at the family homestead, and was educated in the public schools of Armagh township, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, attending school in the winter and working with his father on the farm during the summer. At his father's death he received his portion of the estate in land. He never left his farm, but spent his life in cultivating and improving it. In 1842, he built a large and convenient house in which his son James H. later resided, and in 1877, the cozy home in which his widow resided. Henry L. Close was either a Whig or a Republican, and was actively interested in the political issues of the day. For seventeen successive years he was a school director of Armagh township. In 1873, he served as county commissioner, and for one term was auditor of the county. He was often requested to serve as guardian, or as trustee for an estate.
He was a member of the Presbyterian church, and it was, in a measure, owing to his energetic efforts that the East Kishacoquillas church was built.
