General Notes: Husband - Dr. Alvin Thayer

He could trace his family genealogy back to 1540. In Scotland one of his ancestors was physician to Mary, Queen of Scots; several were generals in the American army, and many of the family connections were professional men holding eminent positions.

He attended lectures in New Orleans, and in 1840 commenced the practice of his profession in Erie City, Pennsylvania. He occupied the position of physician on the Lake Shore Railroad ten years; was Acting Surgeon of the 145th Reg. P. V. I., and volunteered as an "Independent" at the battle of Antietam. He was a member of the State Medical Society, and served as President of the Erie County Medical Society; was a member of the United States Medical Association. He was a Master Mason; in politics, a Democrat. [HEC 1884, 961]
