He and his wife were cousins.

He was graduated from Jefferson College in 1812, studied Theology with Dr. McMillin, was ordained by the Presbytery of Redstone at Greensburg, Pennsylvania, Oct. 22, 1817. He was a pioneer Missionary in southern Ohio. He received the title "D.D." from Center College, Kentucky.
