He lived for a number of years in East Hickory, Forest County, Pennsylvania, with his family and then moved to Ovid, Michigan, where he was a lumberman. About 1868 they settled in Mill Village, Erie County, Pennsylvania, where he was a boot and shoe manufacturer.
