General Notes: Husband - Robert Conkel


He was reared in Greene township, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, where he learned the carpenter's trade. In 1854 he located in Missouri and later in Illinois, where he worked at his trade as a journeyman, and did considerable business as a contractor and builder. In 1862 he enlisted in the 76th Illinois Infantry, and participated in the siege of Vicksburg, battles of Fort Blakely and Spanish Fort, as well as other engagements, and was honorably discharged at Galveston, Texas, in August, 1865. In 1866 he located in Hookstown, Beaver County, and in 1868 in Beaver Falls, remaining there until 1884, when he removed to Raccoon township.
He was a member of the G. A. R.; in politics, a Republican.
