He was born at Chester, Vermont, went to Canada as a young man, and returned later to the United States, locating first in the state of New York, and moving again to Warren Coun­ty, Pennsylvania. He subsequently settled in Tidioute, where he became interested in keeping a hotel, his being one of the best known taverns in that section.
