He was born in Muddy Creek township, Butler County, Pennsylvania, grew to manhood on his father's farm, subsequently purchased the old home-stead, and resided upon it until his death. He was an active worker in the Republican party, and filled the office of school director for a number of years. He was a member of the Baptist church.
